The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, flagged off the Pearl of Africa 2025 Rally, scheduled to take place in Mbarara.

In his remarks, Tayebwa highlighted the significance of the event in promoting local tourism and showcasing the talents of Ugandan drivers.

"I look forward to attending and witnessing the race in person, as well as celebrating the incredible talent of our Ugandan drivers," Tayebwa said. "This event offers not only a platform to showcase their skills but also an opportunity to highlight the beauty of our country and promote local tourism."

Tayebwa stressed the importance of road safety, urging the organizers to disseminate strong safety messages. "Safety is vital for everyone—whether you are driving, walking, jogging, or riding a motorcycle," he emphasised. "Promoting safety for all road users is essential."

The Deputy Speaker pledged increased government support for the sports sector, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth.

"As part of our goal to achieve tenfold economic growth, tourism has been identified as a key driver—and motorsport plays a significant role in boosting both domestic and international tourism," Tayebwa stated.
