Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers forward Abubaker Lawal has died in an accident.
The Nigerian striker lost his life on Monday morning in Entebbe.
"We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning," Vipers said.
"His body has been transferred to a medical facility for post-mortem examination. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends and loved ones during this difficult time."
Lawal, 29, joined Vipers in July 2022 from Rwandan club AS Kigali, where he had spent two years.
Last season, he participated in 24 matches across the league and the CAF Champions League, scoring five goals, including Vipers' inaugural goal in the group stages against Raja Casablanca.
Prior to his time at AS Kigali, the powerful striker played for Nasarawa United in Nigeria.
Just three days ago, Lawal was an unused substitute in Vipers' victory over Mbarara City in the Uganda Cup.
In the wake of Lawal's passing, fans and the football community have taken to social media to pay tribute to him.
