Buwekula Ssaza Head Launches Luwekula Cup

Buwekula Ssaza Head Andrew Mukasa Ssempijja, alongside other Buganda Kingdom officials, has launched the Luwekula Cup, a football tournament aimed at discovering and nurturing local talent within Buwekula County. The competition seeks to strengthen the Buwekula Ssaza team with homegrown players.
Defending champions Musaale Kiyuni Sub-county kicked off the tournament with a match against Ssabagabo Kassambya at Kiyuni Secondary School playground.
In his address, Ssempijja emphasized the importance of the tournament in identifying talent and uniting the county through sports.
“Today, we have launched the Luwekula Cup to discover homegrown talent, which will help build a strong Ssaza team,” he said.
He also appreciated the individuals and organizations that have supported the initiative.
“I want to thank everyone whose efforts have brought us this far. We look forward to an exciting tournament ahead,” he added.
Tom Bwale, the youth leader of Buwekula County, encouraged young people to turn up in large numbers to support the Luwekula Cup.
“I urge the youth of Buwekula to attend these games as a demonstration of their love for the Buganda Kingdom,” Bwale said.
He also invited potential sponsors to take advantage of the large audiences the tournament attracts.
“Our matches draw huge crowds, and sponsors should seize this opportunity,” he added.
Musaale Kiyuni Football Club co-founder Grecian Ssendegeya expressed confidence in his team’s ability to defend their title.
“We are well-prepared and ready to defend our victory from last year,” he said.
He also praised the Buganda Kingdom for organizing the tournament.
“I appreciate the Buganda Kingdom for initiating these games, and I encourage people to attend in large numbers as we build up to the Kabaka’s Birthday celebrations,” Ssendegeya added.
Julius Matovu, a representative of Mumyuka Bagezza, promised a strong performance from his team in their rematch against Musaale Kiyuni.
“Last year, Kiyuni took the title from us in the finals, but this time, we are ready. They are just villagers, while Bagezza is a town sub-county,” Matovu remarked confidently.
The opening match ended in favor of Musaale Kiyuni, who defeated Ssabagabo Kassambya 1-0, with Paul Lukyamuzi scoring the winning goal.
