Kitara has set its sights on a historic double trophy season, aiming to claim both the Uganda Premier League (UPL) and the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

This ambition was reinforced following their 1:0 victory over SC Villa at their home ground, the Royals Park in Butema, Hoima.

Club President Deo Kasozi expressed his confidence in the team during an exclusive interview with The Nile Post.

“Our season started badly, but we changed the coaching management, and now the team is doing well. In the last seven matches, we haven’t conceded any goals. We are at 21 points, 13 points behind the UPL table leaders. We must win double trophies this season,” Kasozi said.

Kasozi attributed the club's turnaround to new coach Wasswa Bossa and improved team cohesion.

“At first, we used to rely on certain players like Omedi and Jude. But now, even when they are not playing, the team wins and scores many goals. The boys are united, and the coaching team is superb. We are impressed as club management,” he noted.

Responding to allegations of match-fixing after their 7-0 demolition of Express, Kasozi dismissed the rumours as baseless.

“Why would we fix a match to humiliate a club like Express with seven goals? That result was shocking but genuine. I was impressed with our performance, but it’s surprising that a club like Express could concede such a number of goals, which has never happened in its history,” he said.

Kasozi also defended the club’s strategy of maintaining a large squad of 38 players, which some fans have criticized as expensive.

“When you have a deep squad, injuries and national team call-ups don’t affect you as much. CAF recommends not exceeding 40 players, and we still have room for two more. During the league break, we may sign one or two players,” he explained.

Club captain Jasper Aheebwa reassured fans of the team’s dedication to delivering results.

“Our fans want nothing but results, and we shall deliver. We are aware of the club's targets this season and are confident we will maintain our form and good performance in the next round,” Aheebwa said.

Currently sitting seventh on the Uganda Premier League table with 21 points, Kitara FC has shown resilience and determination, keeping their double trophy dream alive.

With a break in the league, the team plans to regroup and strengthen further as they prepare for the next phase of the season.
