Uganda to Build 20,000-Seat Akii Bua Stadium in Lira
The $129 million project, expected to be completed within 20 months, will include a main stadium, training facilities, an indoor stadium, a swimming pool, outdoor courts, parking, and other infrastructure.
The Ugandan government has signed a contract with an Egyptian firm, SAMCO National Construction Company, to construct a state-of-the-art 20,000-seat Akii Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira City.
The $129 million project, expected to be completed within 20 months, will include a main stadium, training facilities, an indoor stadium, a swimming pool, outdoor courts, parking, and other infrastructure.
The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, oversaw the contract signing ceremony and handed over the land title to the National Council of Sports. The government aims to boost sports development in the region and honor the legacy of Ugandan Olympic gold medalist John Akii Bua.
