William Ruto, President of Kenya, today graced the 14th Inter-Parliamentary Games in Mombasa, Kenya, which are scheduled to conclude on December 12, 2024.

The annual event, which brings together Members of Parliament from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and South Sudan, is geared towards strengthening cooperation among East African Community (EAC) member states.

Uganda was represented by close to 100 Members of Parliament participating in seven disciplines, including athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, darts, and more.

During the opening ceremony, where he actively participated in the 100-meter race alongside Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and other speakers from Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, President William Ruto emphasized the role of such events in fostering regional unity.

Ruto stated that the East African Community is pursuing initiatives to enhance people-to-people interaction among citizens of member states through sports, music, dance, and cultural activities.

He remarked, “These events and many others are the catalysts for a more inclusive and competitive regional bloc. They reaffirm the EAC’s position as Africa’s most progressive economic community, leading the continent’s integration agenda.”
