KAMPALA | Standard Chartered Bank on Wednesday held the official draw for the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup Tournament, with 41 teams confirmed to participate in this year's event.

The draw took place at the bank's headquarters in Kampala.

Now in its 7th edition, the Standard Chartered Cup is a one-day, five-a-side futsal tournament scheduled for Saturday, September 7 at the KCCA grounds in Lugogo, from 7am to 6pm.

The 41 teams have been grouped into eight groups of five to sixe teams each, with matches to be played in a round-robin format.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the round of 16, followed by knockout rounds leading to the final.

Joel Cornerious Kivumbi, Public Relations Manager for Edgars Youth Programme and Technical Committee Chairperson, expressed gratitude for the continued partnership with Standard Chartered Bank.

"We are committed to ensuring a flawless and fair tournament," he stated, introducing a competent technical team led by experts like Lwanga Ronald and Arthur Kyesimira.

John Mwesigye, chief operations officer of Standard Chartered and Chairman of the Organising Committee, celebrated the successful registration of 40 corporate teams and emphasised the importance of fair play.

“We look forward to a friendly but exciting competition,” he said, highlighting the need for participants to adhere to the tournament’s requirements, such as being over 18 and an amateur player.

The tournament will be held on four mini-pitches, named after Liverpool players: Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Matches kick off at 8:05am, with the winner to be announced by 4:30pm.

The winning team will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the UK, including a visit to the Liverpool Academy, a meet-and-greet with a Liverpool legend, and a chance to watch a live Premier League match at Anfield.

Additional prizes include trophies and medals for the top three teams, and awards for the best player, most disciplined team, best goalkeeper, and highest scorer.
