Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has encouraged Members of Parliament to continue pushing for increased funding to the sports sector, citing the remarkable achievements of Ugandan athlete Joshua Cheptegei.

Tayebwa noted that the current appropriation to the sector is already yielding positive results, as evident in Cheptegei's impressive performances.

"The appropriation, support, and opportunities you have been giving to the sector is paying off, so I hope we can continue giving more and more to the sector," Tayebwa said.

Cheptegei, a world-class long-distance runner, has brought pride to Uganda with his outstanding achievements, including setting multiple world records.

Tayebwa attributed Cheptegei's success to the support and funding provided to the sports sector, emphasizing the need for continued investment.

By encouraging MPs to allocate more resources to sports, Tayebwa aims to foster a culture of excellence and produce more talented athletes like Cheptegei.

This move is expected to benefit Uganda's sports landscape, inspiring future generations to excel in various disciplines.
