Museveni hails late minister Mateke as a "great soul"

President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to the late minister of state for Defense and veteran Affairs, Sarah Mateke, describing her as a non-aggressive and dedicated public servant.

This was during a special parliamentary sitting to pay tribute to Sarah Mateke, the late state minister of Defense and Veteran affairs, and woman MP for Kisoro District.

President Museveni noted that the late minister was a limited speaker in her speeches.

“Minister Mateke was a gentle soul, not aggressive, but firm in her convictions," Museveni said.

“During my meeting with the late minister, one could see that she was very careful with her words.

The president described Mateke as a calm and good person who managed to maneuver the  difficult politics of Kisoro district without creating enemies.

“She would be calm and  say a few words. I formed the committee to study the issue of Congo. She was there, representing Kisoro and they were supposed to brief me in those discussions, that is where I interacted with her closely. You could see that she was very careful with her words. She doesn’t just talk like that. So it is a big loss."

“The people of Kisoro are not easy and to join Kisoro politics, you must have a kin. Her calm demeanor and focused leadership earned her respect across party lines, and her legacy."

President Museveni further urged members of parliament to always take care their health  adding that its important for them to regularly conduct health checks.
