Mourners gathered at the home of former Minister for Regional Cooperation, Philemon Mateke, father to the late Minister of Defense Sarah Mateke, in Nyakabingo Village, Chahi Sub-County, watched in solemn silence as parliamentary proceedings were aired live on NBS TV.

During the prayer service led by the Archbishop of Uganda, Steven Kaziimba Mugalu, cabinet ministers and members of parliament paid tribute to Minister Sarah Mateke, eulogizing her for her exemplary leadership and selflessness, which were described as both admirable and inspirational.

She was also remembered as a peaceful soul, skilled at reconciliation, and a joyful person.

“Mourners here are deeply moved by the parliamentarians’ heartfelt tributes,” expressed one attendee.

As the parliamentary proceedings continued , prayers and reflections were held at the home in Nyakabingo Village, with clergy, district leaders, family members, community members, and friends sharing fond memories of the minister.

“Minister Mateke was a selfless leader who touched many lives,” mourners stated.

The gathering in Nyakabingo Village, Chahi Sub-County in Kisoro, brought together people from all walks of life, united in their grief and appreciation for Minister Sarah Mateke’s legacy.

“Her passing leaves a void in our community,” murmured several community members.

As mourners continued to arrive, preparations for the burial were underway, with the family and community working together to ensure a dignified farewell.
