National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has publicly condemned what he describes as a disturbing violation of human rights involving the abduction of party member Achileo Kivumbi.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Kyagulanyi expressed outrage over the handling of Kivumbi’s case, which he alleges demonstrates the regime's fear of public dissent.

According to Kyagulanyi, Kivumbi was abducted on August 1, 2024, only to resurface two days later, on August 3, with military insignia—specifically Lt. Col. pips—suggesting a forced and orchestrated scenario.

Kyagulanyi criticized the authorities for this alleged “shameless” and “thoughtless” act, which he argues reveals their deep-seated insecurity and desperation.

Kyagulanyi’s post highlighted the broader context of perceived political oppression, asserting that such actions are symptomatic of a government that is “timid and scared of the people.

” He framed the incident as part of a larger pattern of human rights abuses and called for resilience and resistance, declaring, “We shall overcome''

The NUP leader's comments have sparked renewed debate about political repression and human rights in the country. Supporters of the NUP are rallying behind Kyagulanyi’s call for justice, while critics question the veracity of the claims and the motivations behind them.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on how the authorities will respond to these allegations and whether further investigations will be launched into the reported abduction and military disguise of Kivumbi.

The NUP and its allies are expected to continue advocating for transparency and accountability in the face of these serious charges.
