Moroto Hospital marks postpartum haemorrhage awareness month
The cleaning exercise, which began at 9am, focused on enhancing hygiene and safety for both patients and healthcare providers.
In a significant move to commemorate Postpartum Hemorrhage Awareness Month, staff from Moroto Regional Referral Hospital, in collaboration with various stakeholders, today conducted a general cleaning exercise at the hospital's maternity ward.
“These activities are not only aimed at preventing infections but also at fostering a culture of health and safety within our community,” said Dr Martin Ouna.
The cleaning exercise, which began at 9am, focused on enhancing hygiene and safety for both patients and healthcare providers.
“A clean hospital environment is crucial for the health and recovery of our patients,” remarked Dr. Kevin Tino.
Equipped with protective gear and masks, the cleaning team undertook a thorough disinfection of the facility, including mopping the floors.
“We are committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout our facility,” stated Dr Stephen Pande, Moroto Regional Referral Hospital.
This activity is part of a broader series of Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) Awareness initiatives being implemented by the hospital in partnership with CUAMM (Doctors with Africa), with funding from the Embassy of Ireland.
“The initiative is expected to enhance community awareness on postpartum care and encourage more proactive engagement in maternal health matters, ultimately contributing to the reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity rates in the region,” Dr. Lilly Achayo, Program Manager at CUAMM, told *Nile Post*.
In addition to the cleaning exercise, a range of activities has been organized to promote postpartum health and safety. These include community mobilization efforts, street marches to raise awareness, and a health camp for both men and women.
The hospital is also focusing on capacity building for health workers through mentorship programs and integrated outreach initiatives aimed at creating awareness about PPH.
Moreover, efforts are underway to support and strengthen referral systems to ensure timely and effective maternal care.
