Karamoja pays tribute to late NRM Vice Chairperson Simon Peter Aleper

The body of late Simon Peter Aleper, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Karamoja, has arrived in the region 27.07.2024 with a solemn tribute paid by the regional council at Moroto Boma Grounds.

The gathering was marked by heartfelt speeches and calls for the government to revive the Karamoja Development Agency, a cause that the late Aleper passionately advocated for during his tenure.

The tribute ceremony saw leaders and community members come together to honor Aleper, recalling his unwavering dedication to the development of Karamoja.

His contributions to the region were lauded, with many speakers emphasizing his vision for a prosperous and self-sufficient Karamoja.

"He was a man who deeply cared about the future of Karamoja. He tirelessly fought for the revival of the Karamoja Development Agency, believing it was key to unlocking the region's potential," said Joseph Lobot, Chairman Amudat district

The Karamoja Development Agency, which once played a crucial role in the region's development initiatives, has been dormant for years.

"Reviving the Karamoja Development Agency is not just a tribute to Aleper's memory but a necessary step towards realizing the development goals he championed," Paul Lokol, Chairman Nabilatuk district added.

"We urge the government to heed our call and bring back the agency to foster growth and development in Karamoja." Meri Jino, Chairman Kaabong district said.

According to the program seen by this publication, the regional council tribute will be followed by a prayer service at the Church of Uganda Cathedral in Moroto on Sunday, July 28, 2024. A subsequent prayer service will be held at his traditional home in Kangole, Napak district, on Monday, July 29, 2024. The burial will take place on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at his home in Kangole
