Police send Chemusto to fight cattle rustlers
Francis Chemusto chiseled collar in Mount Moroto continues in another form as he has been sent on the loose to tame cattle rustling.
The new commandant of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) replaces Elias Kasirabo, with the latter redeployed at police headquarters as deputy director for human resource administration.
The ASTU is directly charged with the responsibility of mitigating cattle thefts and is mostly operating in Karamoja and the neighbouring districts.
Chemusto, who previously served as the Regional Police Commander in Mount Moroto, has a proven track record of leadership and has nurtured many young police officers throughout his career.
His appointment comes after serving in various capacities, including District Police Commander (DPC) and RPC in Kampala Metropolitan areas.
He was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police by President Museveni in 2022.
During his tenure as ASTU Commandant, Kasirabo implemented significant changes, including the reorganization of the unit's operational base from Katakwi to Moroto and the establishment of canine units in the nine districts of Karamoja.
Mike Longole, Karamoja Region Police spokesperson, praised both officers, saying, "ACP Chemusto is a commander with good leadership qualities, and SCP Kasirabo is a good leader who strengthened joint operations with other security agencies during his tenure."
Other promotions at the Moroto Regional Police Headquarters include:
Appointment of SSP Zaake Latif as the Deputy ASTU Commandant. SSP Madiri Ahmed who has been Deputy RPC now takes over as RPC Mount Moroto
