Mwesigwa on Sunday registered to contest for the position of LCI Chairperson of Nsambwe A Village in Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality, on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
He was accompanied by supporters and fellow journalists during the nomination exercise, signalling support for his entry into local politics.
Mwesigwa, who previously covered Mukono District for Nation Media Group, said his focus would be on strengthening community unity, improving service delivery and promoting accountable leadership at village level.
He pledged to work with residents and local leaders to mobilise development opportunities, improve livelihoods and lobby for essential services.
"I will promote transparent, accountable and people-centred leadership. Development can only happen when leaders work closely with the people they serve," Mwesigwa said.
One of his key priorities is the rehabilitation of a damaged drainage channel, which he described as a safety and security concern for residents.
Mwesigwa claimed that residents had previously contributed money towards repairing the drainage channel, but the work was never completed and accountability for the funds was not provided.
"As a village, we contributed money to rehabilitate the drainage channel, but the funds were allegedly diverted and no accountability was provided. We shall prioritise transparency and ensure community resources are used for their intended purpose," he said.
The former journalist also identified land disputes as another challenge affecting residents, pledging to promote lawful land transactions and greater transparency in land administration.
He said his leadership would discourage practices where the same piece of land is sold or allocated to multiple buyers, a situation he said has contributed to conflicts within the community.
"We shall make the fight against land grabbing one of our key priorities. My leadership will promote lawful and transparent land transactions, and we shall not allow the practice of signing the same piece of land to multiple buyers," Mwesigwa said.
He added that restoring trust between residents and local leaders would be central to his campaign as he seeks to transition from journalism into community leadership.
