Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has urged voters in Buyanja County, Kibaale District, not to vote him out of Parliament, arguing that Uganda’s development agenda requires seasoned legislators who understand government operations and can effectively lobby for services—especially in the area of wealth creation.
Speaking in Kibaale shortly after his nomination in Kampala to contest for re-election, Kasaija, a long-serving Buyanja County MP, emphasised the importance of having “strong parliamentarians who are ready to champion wealth creation.”
“I am not here just to represent, but to deliver. Uganda now needs strong, experienced leaders in Parliament who understand how government works, and who can drive programmes that will create jobs and improve lives,” Kasaija said.
He highlighted key priorities for his next term, including lobbying for the establishment of an industrial park in Buyanja to address youth unemployment, upgrading Kibaale Health Centre IV to hospital status, and expanding wealth creation projects targeting young people and women.
Kasaija, a veteran of the National Resistance Army (NRA) External Wing, said the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government still depends on experienced politicians who can bridge national policies and local needs.
He faces stiff competition from six other candidates vying for the Buyanja County seat, but remains confident that his record and experience will see him through.
“The people of Buyanja know my track record. Now is not the time to experiment. We need continuity to bring development home,” he said.
