Muhamad Kibedi Nsegumire, has been re-elected as the NRM vice chairperson for Mityana District, securing an overwhelming majority in a tightly watched race as the ruling party prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Kibedi won the seat with 433 votes, defeating his only challenger, Rose Katoto, who garnered just 18 votes.
The landslide victory is being viewed as a strong show of confidence in Kibedi’s leadership and commitment to party affairs in the district.
Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Kibedi thanked party delegates for their trust and pledged to redouble his efforts in strengthening the NRM’s grassroots presence.
“I want to thank all members who entrusted me with this responsibility, this victory is not mine alone it belongs to all those who believe in unity and progress for our party. I am committed to working even harder to improve service delivery and build stronger party structures that can win us back the positions we lost in the last election.”Kibedi noted.
Kibedi emphasized the need for cooperation and unity among party members at all levels, warning against internal divisions that have previously cost the NRM key seats in Mityana.
“If we are to succeed in 2026, we must act as one team, the time for bickering is over. We need everyone youth, women, and elders pulling in the same direction if we are to reclaim our lost ground.”Kibedi added.
During the 2021 general elections, the NRM lost several key positions in Mityana to opposition candidates, raising concerns over disunity and weak structures at the grassroots level.
Kibedi said reversing that trend would require strategic mobilization, transparency in internal elections, and consistent engagement with voters across all constituencies.
Party members and district officials have hailed Kibedi’s re-election as a step in the right direction, with many praising his availability, mobilization skills, and commitment to party ideals.
As the 2026 general elections approach, the Mityana NRM leadership now faces the challenge of rebuilding unity, enhancing service delivery, and restoring public confidence in the party. Kibedi’s return to the district executive is seen as a crucial component of that mission.
