Muhammad Luwemba Lusswa, a former aide to the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, has criticised National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi for not supporting the late legislator during his time in prison.

Ssegirinya, the former MP for Kawempe North, along with his colleague Allan Ssewanyana, spent nearly two years behind bars facing murder charges linked to a series of machete attacks in Masaka.

Appearing on Sanyuka Television on Friday, Luwemba claimed that throughout the legislators' imprisonment, Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, did not visit them.

"The party president never came to see them in prison, and even Allan Ssewanyana can confirm this. I was always close to them and observed who came to visit," he stated.

Luwemba's remarks followed his earlier assertion that Ssegirinya passed away feeling disillusioned with NUP for not being there for him during his incarceration.

"Ssegirinya died without wanting anything to do with NUP. He is watching me from wherever he is. God should strike me down if I'm lying," he said.

However, Luwemba's claims raise doubts, as NUP president Kyagulanyi was photographed visiting Kigo Prison in to check on the incarcerated legislators.

Kyagulanyi even spoke to journalists at the same location, confirming his visits and providing updates on their condition at the time.

Additionally, Luwemba's assertion that Ssegirinya was unhappy with NUP contradicts the fact that the late MP, prior to his demise had praised the party and its president for their support during his difficult times, including receiving a party card that helped him secure his seat in Parliament.

Luwemba's comments come shortly after Kyagulanyi and Ssewanyana accused former Leader of the Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, of being behind the imprisonment of both Ssegirinya and the Makindye West MP.
