The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, has taken leave from his duties and appointed his deputy for Northern Uganda, Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, as acting party president.
In a formal communication addressed to FDC’s Chief Electoral Commissioner, Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda, Amuriat stated that he would be nominating the party's presidential flag bearer on May 7, 2025, after which he would embark on the election campaign.
Amuriat confirmed that during this period, Fungaroo would assume leadership of the party, stepping in as acting president until the presidential flag bearer is selected.
"I will step aside from my duties as party president until the flag bearer is determined. During this period, Fungaroo will manage the party's operations," Amuriat noted, also copying the FDC Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, for record purposes.
The announcement of Fungaroo’s appointment has sparked widespread discussion across various WhatsApp platforms, particularly in the West Nile region.
Messages of support and encouragement flooded the groups, with one user expressing gratitude for the delegation of leadership to “our intelligent Hon. Hassan Kaps Fungaroo.”
Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, a former Member of Parliament for Obongi County, confirmed receiving the appointment and expressed his acceptance of the role.
He thanked Amuriat for the trust placed in him and promised to maintain the office's vibrancy during his tenure.
“I am committed to ensuring the smooth running of party operations, including managing day-to-day activities, attending meetings, and overseeing the ongoing preparations for FDC's primary elections,” Fungaroo said.
He emphasized that FDC’s focus remains on transitioning the government and preparing the nation for FDC leadership in 2026.
Fungaroo also stressed the importance of working together with party members to ensure transparent and harmonious elections within the party.
With extensive experience in Uganda’s political landscape, Fungaroo remains optimistic that the time for a democratic change is imminent, and the FDC will take the lead in the upcoming elections.
