“I am alerting and requesting all the NRM members to go to their respective local areas by 10am on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, to do two things: Take part in the baraza that will verify the members of the NRM that have been registered in the NRM registers; Take part in the elections of the NRM LCI flag-bearer for LCI chairmanship and also elect the village NRM structures.”

The President emphasized the importance of ensuring the integrity of the NRM membership lists, stating that the verification process is vital for the party’s internal democracy.

“The two activities should strictly take place between 10am and 2pm,” he directed, setting a strict timeframe for the day’s activities.

Despite his presence at the grassroots level elections, President Museveni affirmed his neutrality regarding individual candidates.

“I will, however, not line behind any candidate for election because as chairman of the NRM, I welcome any choice of our members. I cannot and should not, therefore, take sides,” he clarified, underscoring his commitment to a fair and democratic process within the party.

To facilitate the widespread participation of NRM members, the President announced the cancellation of the weekly cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025.

He also confirmed an agreement with the Speaker of Parliament to suspend parliamentary sittings on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

These measures are intended to allow government officials and Members of Parliament to return to their respective villages and actively engage in the verification and election exercises.

The move signals the NRM’s commitment to strengthening its grassroots structures and ensuring the active involvement of its membership in key decision-making processes. .
