Kawempe North MP-elect Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola has threatened to storm the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) for a direct confrontation, demanding an explanation for the delay in his gazette publication.
This comes after a meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC), where officials confirmed that Nalukoola’s details had been sent to UPPC and were awaiting publication. Without the gazette, Nalukoola cannot officially be sworn into office.
In addition to his gazetting concerns, Nalukoola has called for the withdrawal of UPDF soldiers from Kawempe North, accusing them of abducting his agents and coercing them into signing affidavits intended to challenge his election victory.
Accompanied by his lawyer George Musisi and NUP Secretary-General David Lewis Rubongoya, Nalukoola visited the EC headquarters seeking clarification on the status of his swearing-in.
During the visit, Rubongoya revealed that the EC had already forwarded Nalukoola’s details to UPPC, suggesting the delay is on UPPC’s side.
Nalukoola vowed to personally confront UPPC if the gazetting process is delayed further, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Meanwhile, Paul Bukenya, EC communication manager, maintains that the Commission is adhering to its legally mandated timeframe and has no intentions of causing further delays.
Sources indicate that UPPC is expected to send Nalukoola’s details back to the EC today for final confirmation before publication.
