Thousands Gather for NRM’s Final Rally in Kawempe North as Museveni’s Arrival Anticipated
Nambi, one of ten contenders in the race, has previously struggled to pull large crowds at her rallies.

Thousands of NRM supporters have gathered in Kawempe North for President Museveni's anticipated arrival at the final rally for Faridah Nambi's campaign, ahead of the March 13 by-election to fill the vacant parliamentary seat

Thousands of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters have gathered at Mbogo Playground in Kawempe North, eagerly awaiting the arrival of President Museveni.

The NRM national chairperson is expected to grace the final campaign rally of the party’s flag bearer, Faridah Nambi, ahead of the constituency’s by-election scheduled for March 13.

Nambi, one of ten contenders in the race, has previously struggled to pull large crowds at her rallies. However, today’s turnout marks a significant shift, attributed to the president’s anticipated presence.

The ruling party is banking on Museveni’s influence to bolster Nambi’s chances, especially after her unsuccessful bid for the Kampala Woman MP seat in 2021, where she lost to Shamim Malende of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The Kawempe North parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya in January.

Ssegirinya, a prominent NUP member, had won the seat in the 2021 elections, defeating the NRM’s candidate in a contest that highlighted the opposition’s stronghold in Kampala.

Senior government officials, including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, several ministers, members of parliament, and top NRM leaders are in attendance, underscoring the party’s concerted effort to reclaim the seat.

As the final campaign day unfolds, all eyes are on the NRM rally and whether the president’s endorsement will significantly sway voters in a constituency historically dominated by opposition forces.
