PFF and ANT Join Forces With NUP to Campaign for Nalukoola

In a significant display of solidarity, the National Unity Platform (NUP), People's Front for Transition (PFF), and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) have united behind NUP’s flag bearer, Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, in the upcoming Kawempe North parliamentary by-election.
The by-election, set for March 13, 2025, follows the death of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and has attracted a range of candidates, with Nalukoola gaining strong backing.
The alliance between the three parties aims to present a unified front, amplifying the voices of the opposition in the constituency. According to supporters, the partnership reflects a shared goal of prioritising the needs of the people over partisan interests.
"We recognise that our individual strengths are amplified when we work together," said Betty Ethel Nalwima, the NUP representative for Wakiso district, and Asinans Nyakato, PFF-leaning FDC woman MP for Hoima City.
Nalukoola, a seasoned lawyer, has focused his campaign on addressing the key issues of poverty, unemployment, and the lack of adequate access to healthcare and education in Kawempe North.
His supporters believe that his leadership experience equips him to effectively advocate for the constituency's needs.
"Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola has the vision, experience, and leadership skills to represent Kawempe North effectively," said Ntale Kalema, the deputy speaker of Nansana Municipality.
The seat became vacant following the death of NUP MP Muhammad Ssegirinya in January 2025, leading to the March by-election. At a rally at Kanyanya playground, PFF spokesperson Halod Kaijja called for a unified opposition front, urging NRM supporters to reconsider their positions.
"It's high time for the opposition to convince NRM supporters to join the side of the oppressed," Kaijja stated.
The Lord Mayor of Kampala, also president of PFF, highlighted the success of opposition unity in pushing for the Supreme Court to rule against the martial court.
He urged all Ugandans to join the opposition cause for the greater good of the nation.
Erias Lukwago, president of PFF, also emphasised the necessity of cooperation among opposition groups in order to achieve meaningful political change in the country.
"We cannot afford to work in isolation if we hope to bring about meaningful change," Lukwago said.
