Nalukoola: We Shall Safeguard Our Kawempe North Vote With ‘People Power’

Campaigns for the Kawempe North by-election conclude on Tuesday, with voters heading to the polls on Thursday to elect a replacement for former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, who passed away on January 9 at the age of 37.
Counsel Elias Nalukoola Luyiimbazi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate in the Kawempe North by-election, has vowed to guard against any form of vote rigging in Thursday’s election, declaring that "people’s power" will be central in protecting the vote.
“The people who will vote for NUP are invited to protect their vote. Voting alone is not enough,” Nalukoola said.
“We cannot have leadership without our people. We have encouraged them to turn up in large numbers and vote. After voting, we have also invited them to stay and wait for the declaration of results. We have organized a team of leaders and our followers to observe and protect our votes,” he added.
Appearing on NBS Live at 1, Nalukoola stated that his team of overseers and foot soldiers had undergone sufficient training to ensure a smooth electoral process, expressing confidence in securing the support of Kawempe North voters.
“We have trained our people and given them the necessary skills. We know what we are doing, and we believe that the dictator will not take our victory,” he said.
Nalukoola announced that his final campaign rally would be held in Bwaise I, one of the parishes in Kawempe North, and called on supporters to turn up in large numbers ahead of Thursday’s polls.
He also expressed confidence in the upcoming NBS TV debate, set for Monday night at 10 pm, highlighting his experience in public discourse.
“We are more than ready because voters are in our favour. I am also ready for the debate—that is my game. I have been debating since primary and secondary school. In 2001, I won for Makerere University in the Inter-University debate, where I received a laptop and a certificate,” he said.
