A heavy deployment of security personnel has been observed at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kavule, sparking anxiety among party supporters and the general public. The motive behind the deployment remains unclear.

Men dressed in Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JAT) uniforms, along with Military Police and regular police officers, have been stationed around the opposition party’s offices.

Before taking positions at the headquarters, several drone cars and military patrol vehicles were seen moving around the area in what appeared to be a coordinated operation.

A JAT patrol vehicle and a drone car have been spotted parked directly at the party’s entrance.

In what seems to hint at the purpose of the operation, a police forensic evidence vehicle has also arrived at the scene, suggesting a potential search of the party offices.

Authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding the deployment.

This latest security operation follows a wave of arrests targeting NUP officials.

Over the past two weeks, at least seven party leaders have been taken into custody, including NUP’s Director of Mobilization, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, and four members of the party’s electoral committee, led by Chairperson Mercy Walukamba.

Nyanzi was reportedly arrested on Monday evening by individuals in JAT uniforms near Kubiri Roundabout in Mulago.

However, his whereabouts remain unknown, as security agencies have declined to acknowledge holding him in custody, raising concerns about enforced disappearances.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere around the NUP headquarters remains tense, with the gates now closed, an unusual development for the party’s administrative center.

Sources have confirmed that none of the top NUP leaders are currently inside the premises.

NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has expressed fears for his life amid the heightened security activities.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Kyagulanyi alleged that armed men have been patrolling his home.

“Whatever happens to me, Museveni and his son are responsible. From yesterday, our home is being patrolled by strange men in civilian clothes who appear to be armed. We have information that they are after my life – as threatened by Museveni’s son a few days ago,” Kyagulanyi stated.

He further commented on the ongoing operation at the party headquarters, saying, “Right now, they’re raiding our party headquarters. We expect anything from the cowardly regime – but we are not intimidated."

Authorities have yet to respond to Kyagulanyi’s allegations or clarify the reasons behind the heavy security presence at NUP’s offices.

The developments come amid escalating political tensions and increased scrutiny on opposition activities in the country.

This is a developing story. More details will be provided as they emerge.
