UPC Vows to Weed Out Fake Members in Ongoing Registration Drive

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has pledged to conduct a rigorous screening of its registered members as part of its ongoing electronic registration exercise. This effort aims to eliminate individuals accused of using party cards for financial gain during political crossovers.

Speaking to the press, UPC Secretary General Fred Ebil emphasised the party’s commitment to identifying and de-registering “double standard” members who allegedly exploit their membership for selfish interests.

“We have registered a significant number of supporters in our current exercise. However, our next critical task is to screen and identify genuine members who truly believe in the values of the Uganda People’s Congress,” Ebil stated.

He further condemned the practice of individuals acquiring UPC cards only to sell them during political transitions. “If you carry a UPC card, it should represent your loyalty and belief in the party’s ideals. We will not tolerate the misuse of our membership cards for personal enrichment during political crossovers,” he added.

2025 Master Plan

Fred Ebil also unveiled UPC’s ambitious master plan for 2025, which seeks to solidify the party’s presence across Uganda by fielding candidates in every elective position during the 2026 general elections.

“UPC is gearing up to contest in all electoral seats nationwide. This is part of our broader strategy to restore UPC’s influence and deliver meaningful leadership at all levels of governance,” Ebil revealed.

The party has high hopes for its presidential ambitions, with speculations suggesting that Jimmy Akena, the party leader, could carry the UPC flag in the 2026 presidential race.

Resolute Mobilisation

The UPC has positioned itself as a major contender ahead of the 2026 general elections, deploying systematic mobilisation strategies to build a robust support base. The ongoing registration drive and the planned screening process reflect the party’s determination to consolidate its loyal following.

“Our focus is clear—we are committed to weeding out impostors and strengthening the core of our party. This is a battle we are prepared to fight and win with bravery,” Ebil affirmed.

As the political season heats up, the UPC’s approach underscores the increasing competition among Uganda’s political parties to secure mass support and maintain credibility in their ranks.
