Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate Mable Ingabire is optimistic about her chances of winning the Kisoro woman MP by-election, citing the divisionism within the NRM party as a key advantage.

This divisionism has been evident in the recent NRM party primaries, where Rose Kabagyeni emerged as the flag bearer amidst allegations of vote rigging and imposition by the party’s top leadership.

Ingabire’s confidence may not be unfounded considering the deep-seated divisions within the NRM leadership in Kisoro.Dr.

Mateke the district NRM chairperson has publicly expressed concerns over the selection of Kabagyeni, claiming that she was imposed by the party’s top national leadership that was led by Dr. Tanga Odoi.

Ingabire notes that since the NRM top leadership in Kisoro is divided, she will be coming in as a go between.

She adds that she will try to bring the NRM divided leaders together.

Ingabire further advocates that once she voted to represent the women in Kisoro, she will ensure that people are working together.

"I want us to work together as Ugandans. I really don’t want to see the divisionism in NRM crossing to our UPC party,” Ingabire says.

In response Rosemary Seninde NRM national mobilizer notes that its so hurting having independents who have been NRM stressing that they decide t come back and struggle with NRM flag bearer.

Seninde says that this cause frictions and divisionism.

She is hopeful that the party will win the by-election despite those challenges of divisionism amongst top party leadership.

“We have always had this divisionism in each by-election we have had. For example the Bukimbiri by-election we had party leaders who were not support NRM flag bearer but we had to sit them down.” Seninde says.

As Kisoro on who is the next district woman MP, currently six candidates are vying for the Kisoro district woman MP seat where they will head for polls on November 14,2024.
