The National Unity Platform party principal, Robert Kyagulanyi, has urged youth to take an active role in shaping the country’s future.
Speaking at the NUP’s Youth Convention at the Jinja Show Grounds in Jinja City, Mr Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, highlighted the power of the youth who constitute the majority of the population in leading transformative change through political engagement.
“I have good news and a challenging reality for you: God can work within what you believe, but you must take charge of your destiny,” he said.
Held under the theme, “The Role of Youths in Redeeming Uganda,” the convention drew young people from across the country who voiced concerns about rising unemployment and limited job opportunities despite their qualifications.
Many questioned the ruling party’s commitment to transparency, freedom, and economic opportunity.
The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Joel Ssenyonyi, underscored the need for youth empowerment and involvement in Uganda’s future.
“This is a direct call for action,” he said, stressing the critical role youth play in addressing the country’s challenges.
Originally scheduled for Kakindu Stadium, the event was relocated to Jinja Show Grounds due to unforeseen circumstances. Security was tightly managed by both army and police personnel, ensuring the event ran smoothly.
The gathering featured prominent NUP figures, including Youth Chairperson Francis Zaake, National Head of Mobilization Fred Nyanzi, and Eastern Region Mobilization Head Andrew Kaluya. Kaluya praised the security forces for their role in creating a safe environment during the convention.
The convention’s goal was to inspire youth to become agents of positive change, equipping them with the skills and determination to drive good governance.
With Bobi Wine at the helm, rallying support for a brighter future, the event highlighted the youth’s essential role in Uganda’s transformation journey.
