Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda has tasked government to give an explanation for what he says was brutal arrest of him and other Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) colleagues.

Ssemujju and the group were arrested on Monday as they attempted to march to the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda to deliver a protest note regarding FDC Katonga faction members who were arrested in Kisumu, Kenya last week and handed over to Ugandan authorities.

On Wednesday, Ssemujju expressed frustration with the manner police manhandled him and his colleagues, pronouncing police treated them 'like dogs'.

"Yesterday, I was brutally arrested and we were taking a protest to the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda because of our colleagues who were kidnapped and tortured from Kenya, only to be met with angry police men," Ssemujju said.

He added, "We were dumped in that vehicle that looks like it carries dogs and even dead ones and the person driving that vehicle behaves like he is on drugs, we also thank God that we survived him," said Ssemujju."

A total of 36 FDC Katonga members were recently arrested in Kenya and returned home, before being remanded to Luzira on charges related to terrorism.

In protest against the arrests, Ssemujju alongside other 13 members of the FDC Katonga faction were bundled into a van and whisked away.

Ssemujju questioned why MPS could be mistreated and humiliated for merely demanding answers regarding the plight of Ugandans arrested in Kenya.

"I need an explanation from Government, people kidnapped from Kenya and beaten, you this Government of a “Freedom Fighter” that were in Luwero now the same Museveni is making MPs being brutally arrested, sitting them in the mud and charging them with public nuisance," Ssemujju said.

"Maybe that Museveni disappeared and we have another person, so can we be told, why we are being mistreated in our country to this level?" he added.
