Is Basalirwa's Holy Alliance pressure group too quiet for its own good?
Asuman Basalirwa of JEEMA fronted Holy Alliance

POLITICS | Months following its inception, the Holy Alliance, spearheaded by prominent figures from JEEMA, NEED, CP, and other political players, remains enigmatic in terms of its accomplishments.

Despite its stated objectives, such as priming Ugandans for a transition towards quality leadership, a tangible track record is elusive.

While initial proponents of the coalition like JEEMA’s Asuman Basalirwa and Conservative Party’s John Ken Lukyamuzi have opted to remain silent on the alliance’s progress, some have openly diverged on the perceived achievements and attribute setbacks to collaboration within the opposition ranks, alleging interference from the government.

Joseph Kabuleeta, president of the NEED party, and Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku, a political activist, have pledged to pursue the alliance's goals at their own pace, with a particular focus on activities leading up to the 2026 elections.

Amidst speculation and scrutiny, the spotlight falls on the rift between Mukaaku and Kabuleeta regarding the alliance's milestones thus far.

However, they find common ground in their commitment to mobilize support for the upcoming electoral cycle.

Questions loom over the fate of the Holy Alliance: What impediments led to its apparent stagnation? Does the prevailing silence foreshadow its demise?

As key figures distance themselves from discussions, the alliance's viability hangs in the balance, while its promise of facilitating an effective transition remains unfulfilled.

Expressing apprehension, they highlight that the United Forces of Change, a formidable rival alliance is posing a significant challenge to their dominance.

Despite its professed dedication to serving Ugandan interests, the Holy Alliance's failure to address grievances resonating among the populace fuels disillusionment, casting a shadow over the future trajectory of democracy in Uganda.

As uncertainties loom large, the Holy Alliance stands at a crossroads, with the decisions made in the coming days likely to shape the nation's destiny.
