Former LoP calls for electoral reforms
Winnie Kiiza

Kiiza, a former Woman MP for Kasese, says the 1995 Constitution no longer meet desires of Ugandans as certain things need to be changed.

Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Winnie Kiiza says it is time Ugandans talked about the electoral reforms they want in the Constitution.

Kiiza, a former Woman MP for Kasese, says the 1995 Constitution no longer meet desires of Ugandans as certain things need to be changed.

Kiiza adds that the current constitution also gives excess powers to the president which powers he uses wrongly.

She says there is ever an intention of talking about the reforms when the country is going in elections, which should stop and reforms be worked on now.

Kiiza said this today while speaking at the national conference on the road to the 2026 general elections in Uganda, organised by Uganda national NGO forum at golf course in Kampala

"You cant Just Stand up to Say I'm going for an election where one of the actors is the one who has appointed the referee, has appointed the linesmen, and is actually responsible for their budget and then you call others to the table and say come we play the game.

You are going to the election where the incumbent has all the powers to donate whatever he wants to donate.

He will use the donations that are given by law to attract support. It doesn't create a leveled ground for all actors.

And to us in the political parties we still think Ugandans should talk about the necessary reforms," Kiiza said.
