KAMPALA - The Electoral Commission has released the programme for the by-elections of the District Woman Representative to Parliament for Dokolo District and Local Government Councillors in district where vacancies exist.

Ogwal, a seasoned legislator who in the 90s had the nation on her palm, passed away on January 18.

"The by–election programme will commence with an update of the National Voters’ Register from Monday 12th to Thursday 15th February, 2024 at update stations in each of the seventy-one (71) parishes/wards in Dokolo District," said the EC chairperson Simon Byabakama as he released the roadmap.

The Commission has appointed Thursday, February 15 as the cut-off date for applying for registration as a voter and for transfer of voting location in the district.

The registration and transfer of voters from one polling station to another within Dokolo District will not take place after Thursday 15th February 2024.

The display of the voters’ register will be conducted for a period of 10 days from Wednesday, February 21 at all the 17) polling stations in Dokolo District.

"Nomination of candidates will be conducted between Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12 at the Office of the District Returning Officer, Dokolo," Byabakama, whose newly composed commission was sworn-in last week, said.

"Successfully nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for seven days from Wednesday, March 13."

Polling and tallying of results for by-election of councilors representing Special Interest Groups will take place on Monday, March 18, while the polling day for the District Woman Representative to Parliament and other councillors will be on Thursday, March 21.

Parties are yet to declare their flag bearers for the vacant position

Both NRM and FDC are reportedly fighting for the late Ogwal's sister, Ms Rosemary Alwoc, to carry their flag.

The FDC party is expected to announce it's candidate for the district Woman MP by-election tomorrow.
