Police in Kajjansi have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which six children died in a house fire.

The fire, which ravaged the residence of Bakita Ayang, a South Sudanese national in Mulanda B, Kisubi  was reported at approximately 1 am, prompting swift action from local authorities.

" Upon receiving a distress call, officers from the Kisubi Police Station, led by the Officer in Charge, rushed to the scene alongside firefighters from Entebbe Police Division," said Kampala Metropolitan deputy police  spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.

He said despite  efforts by community members to rescue the trapped children, aged between 2 and 16, the inferno proved relentless, claiming their lives before help could reach them.

As the flames were extinguished, the somber task of recovering the bodies commenced.

The charred remains of the children were solemnly retrieved and transported to the city mortuary, where postmortem examinations will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated from an electronic kettle left unattended in the sitting room, connected to a socket,"Owoyesigyire said.

He however said that further inquiries will be conducted to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

As investigations into the fire continue, residents are reminded to exercise caution and vigilance, particularly regarding fire safety measures within their homes. Prevention remains paramount in averting such devastating tragedies in the future.
