Police in Kampala have kicked off a man hunt for unidentified thugs armed with pangas who trailed a businessman from the bank and cornered him in traffic jam and robbed shs100 million from him.
According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson , Patrick Onyango, Fred Tibamanya had just withdrawn the cash from Centenary Bank’s Kawempe branch and as he drove his vehicle, a Toyota Harrier, registration number, UBN 789W at Maganjo, along Bombo Road he was attacked by the gang.
“Tibamanya’s vehicle which was in jam was attacked by the suspects who were riding on three motorcycles and armed with pangas. They smashed the vehicle’s wind screen while the car was still stuck in jam and went off with the bag containing the money,” Onyango said.
He noted that after the robbery, the assailants rode towards the city centre where they dropped the bag along Kyadondo road.
According to Onyango, whereas the bag was recovered together with documents including land titles that were in it, the cash, amounting to shs100 million was never recovered.
“The joint security agencies of police, the UPDF and intelligence agencies have kicked off efforts to track and arrest the suspects,” Onyango said.
