On October 19, Kajjansi Muline witnessed a significant community initiative led by the Kigo 7 Lakes Golf Rotary Club, in collaboration with other local Rotary clubs. This event addressed key health concerns and environmental issues, providing essential services to residents.
With support from the Rotary Club of Kampala Kibuli’s Membership Director, Nasser Konde, and Rotaract Kibuli, the team partnered with the Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue Foundation to offer free sickle cell screenings. This medical camp provided vital health services, with organizers emphasizing the importance of early detection and better care for sickle cell patients—an often-overlooked issue in Uganda. Additionally, the medical services extended to include all forms of immunization, ensuring comprehensive healthcare for the community.
Alongside these health initiatives, a clean-up drive was organized to tackle environmental concerns in the area. Volunteers, motivated by Rotary’s ethos of "Service Above Self," joined forces with community members to clear rubbish and promote environmental awareness. The aim was to inspire residents to take greater responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and fostering a shared commitment to public health and sanitation.
This impactful initiative was made possible through partnerships with several local organizations and companies, including Next Com, NBS TV, Eco Bank, Pepsi, Lake Victoria Serena Hotel, Zoramu, Case Hospital, Pro Show, ABSA, Nile Breweries, and Qcil Uganda. Their contributions provided crucial resources and visibility, helping to ensure the event’s success.
By combining health services, including immunization, with environmental action, the day's events addressed some of the pressing challenges facing the Kajjansi Muline community. While more work remains to be done, this effort underscored how community action, backed by strong local partnerships, can create meaningful change in both public health and environmental conservation.
