Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, is set to inspect the ongoing renovation works at Mandela National Stadium today. This follows a recent decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) not to approve the Shs80 billion renovation efforts carried out by the UPDF Engineering Brigade, citing unmet standards.

The scrutiny by the Speaker comes at a critical time when Uganda is keen on meeting international standards for its sports facilities. Peter Ogwang, Minister of State for Sports, highlighted ongoing efforts to comply with CAF requirements, including logistical improvements such as the removal of buses from the stadium parking lot by Pioneer Bus Company, scheduled for today. This removal is expected to allow for the necessary marking and organization of the parking area to adhere to CAF guidelines.

The inspection and subsequent upgrades are crucial as they will determine the stadium’s eligibility to host upcoming international sports events, which have significant implications for sports development and international relations in Uganda. Further updates are expected as the Speaker assesses the progress and effectiveness of the renovations.
