BREAKING: Katanga widow applies for bail

Ms Katanga, a prime suspect in the murder of her husband Henry Katanga, is filed her bail application before the High Court today (Wednesday).

KAMPALA | Molly Katanga has applied for temporary freedom from the clutches of the law that has her locked up on remand in Luzira Prison.

Nile Post understands she has cited ill-health.

Ms Katanga, a prime suspect in the murder of her husband Henry Katanga, is filed her bail application before the High Court today (Wednesday).

Her lawyer Jet Tumwebaze, who confirmed the application, said they are now waiting for the High Court to set a date for the bail hearing.

Tumwebaze revealed that Ms Katanga's health has heavily deteriorated over the last few weeks she has spent in prison, which prompted them to seek court's intervention to enable her access better healthcare.

Ms Katanga and her two children Martha and Patricia Nkwanzi as well as George Amanyire and Charles Otai are battling charges related to the murder of businessman Henry Katanga in November 2023.

Martha, Patricia, Amanyire and Otai were granted bail recently after spending weeks in prison.

The late Katanga was shot dead  in his marital bedroom in Mbuya in Nakawa Division on November 2, 2023.

It took two months for Ms Katanga, who faces the death penalty if convicted, to be charged as she remained in intensive care unit in a Kampala hospital since news of the murder broke out.

She was wheeled into Nakawa Chief Magistrate's Court on February 12 with her head wrapped in a surgical bandage, charged and remanded to Luzira.
