The National Unity Platform (NUP) has elected a Kabale District Mobilization Taskforce Committee as part of efforts to strengthen party structures ahead of the 2026 elections.
The elections were held at the NUP offices along Nyerere Avenue in Central Division, Kabale Municipality, and were presided over by Jolly Jackie Tukamushaba, the party’s Western Region Vice President.
Fifteen leadership positions were filled, with Derrick Katebire elected as the Kabale District NUP Chairperson and Augustine Rukundo as his deputy.
Other elected leaders include Luke Twesigye as General Secretary, Cleophas Atuheire as Publicity Secretary, and Devis Kabyesiza as Finance Secretary.
Assumpitah Niwabeine was elected as the Mobilizer for Women, Pretty Atuheire as the Mobilizer for Female Youth, Bright Muhereza as the Mobilizer for Male Youth, and Herbert Muyambi as the Mobilizer for Institutions.
Other mobilization roles went to Barnabas Tumushabe (Professionals), Juliet Musimenta (Persons with Disabilities), Melchizedek Turwoomwe (Elderly), Ambrose Nkurunungyi (Informal Sector), Anthony Mucunguzi (Arts, Culture, and Sports), and George Muzanira (Veterans and Retired Persons).
Tukamushaba urged the newly elected members to be transparent, cooperative, and united while upholding the party’s principles.
She emphasized that their leadership would be crucial in strengthening party structures and increasing NUP’s support in Kabale as they work towards forming the next government.
Speaking to the press after the elections, newly elected district chairperson Derrick Katebire reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to grassroots mobilization, noting that the district now has a formalized leadership structure extending to the village level.
“As NUP Kabale, we previously had appointed structures at the district level. Today, we have formalized our leadership by electing both district and constituency mobilization committees,” Katebire said.
“We are confident that these structures will help us spread our agenda, mobilize support, and strengthen NUP’s presence at the grassroots,” he added.
Tukamushaba emphasized that vote protection remains a key challenge for the party and that the newly elected leaders will play a critical role in ensuring electoral fairness in 2026.
“Kigezi region is not an NRM stronghold; it is a hub for election rigging. We are certain that in 2026, there will be a wave of change in the western region. Our main focus is on protecting the vote, and those elected will be responsible for safeguarding it until results are declared,” she stated.
NUP is currently conducting mobilization elections across various districts as the country prepares for the 2026 elections.
