Mayinja sings at NRM fete, angers opposition

Ronald Mayinja, a popular local artiste who has flirted with the idea of contesting for political office, yesterday angered sections of opposition supporters when he chose to perform at the NRM fete in Kiboga.

The fete was organised by the NRM to congratulate the 317 MPs who voted for the removal of the presidential age-limit last year.

Mayinja has severally identified with the opposition and he is a known supporter of the Democratic Party. He has even appeared at some party functions.

He has also sang about political repression most famously his song, “Tulikubunkenke”(we are on tenterhooks).

The song was used as the soundtrack of Dr Kizza Besigye’s 2006 presidential campaign.

Mayinja’s action has attracted the ire of the opposition faithful.

“My best Artist Ronald Mayinja has sang for Mr. M7 in Kiboga as the 317 MPs celebrate the raping of the Constitution!!! I still don’t know what the action means. Just this week on Thursday, he sang for us in Jinja at Mwiru Paul’s rally. I don’t know how I feel,” posted Harold Kaija, the party’s deputy secretary general, on his Facebook page.
