Boxers live in fear after mysterious deaths of their colleagues

The Uganda Boxing Federation(UBF) has tasked the government to explain the death and arrest of their members.

While addressing the media at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo on Saturday, the president of the federation Moses Muhangi said for a long time boxers have been victimised and arrested by security officers.

His remarks followed the murder of boxer Zebra ‘Mando’ Ssenyange, who was reportedly shot dead in Bwaise in the wee hours of Tuesday night last week. President Museveni said Ssenyange had been killed after a misunderstanding with some security personnel.

Muhangi tasked President Museveni to explain and give more details about the missing and killing of boxers in the country since he said he knows who murdered Zebra.

He said a day after the gruesome murder of their colleague, another boxer called Mukasa Robert alias Soldier went missing and was found dead near Bombo barracks.

He added that Mudde Ntambi together with the former World Champion Joe Vegas Lubega among others are currently missing and their whereabouts are unknown.

"There are many boxers who are going missing. I urge all boxers to be very careful and vigilant and refrain from getting involved in suspicious activities as we wait for President Museveni's investigative report,"he advised.

Muhangi said most of their members are now living in fear hence demanding assurance for the safety of boxers.

"As the federation we expect justice for the killing of Zebra. We want the president to understand that the fraternity of boxing is under fear. We don't know what to do. Most of our people are being kidnapped, murdered and we don't know why," he said.

Hajji Juma Nsubuga, a boxing coach suggested that a list of boxers should be generated and forwarded to the relevant authorities as one way of eliminating suspicion.
