Bobi Wine claims NUP supporters’ pressure behind Museveni name change, urges them to turn up heat

National Unity Platform principal and presidential hopeful, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine has urged Ugandans to pile the pressure on the Electoral Commission (EC) until they release President Yoweri Museveni's academic documents.

NUP member and lawyer Muwada Nkunyingi in August asked for academic documents that candidate Museveni used in the 2016 presidential elections as required by the Presidential Elections Act 2005 of the constitution, but the EC is still silent on the subject.

Last week, President Museveni changed his name from Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni and the Kyadondo East legislator believes that the academic documents have a thing to do with the name change.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Kyagulanyi said that he had never seen a Ugandan changing names in his late 70's and this shows that the pressure applied by Ugandans on social media is being felt.

Kyagulanyi said, "Fellow Ugandans, continue applying the pressure because it will unearth many things that we want to know about the President."

Kyagulanyi said that when President Museveni was rising to power in 1986, he did not submit any documents anywhere and every Ugandan has for long wanted to know if he really has the credentials that he claims to have.

"All Ugandans want to see is if Museveni really has the academic documents and that he is legally sitting in that office," Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi said that Ugandans also want to know if President Museveni is indeed a Ugandan and asked the Electoral Commission to release the documents at the same speed they used to release his in August.
