A meeting by members of the National Unity Platform in Luweero ended prematurely after chaos erupted following disagreements on the procedure to choose flag bearers.

The meeting that had been summoned for members of NUP from the districts of Luwero, Nakasongola, and Nakaseke to determine the flag bearers in different elective positions.

The meeting was going on smoothly until supporters of Sam Sserunjogi, a mayor hopeful for Wobulenzi broke out of the meeting and chaos ensued.

These argued that they were suspicious of the process which was being used to select candidates to flag bearer positions.

These started a protest and caused turmoil, disrupting the meeting without ceremony.

The Wobulenzi Mayoral NUP race has attracted three candidates namely: Sam Sserunjogi, Jabeeri Tamale, and incumbent Moses Ssebalamu. However, the race is between Sserunjogi and Ssebalamu.

Supporters on Sserunjogi accuse the NUP leaders of siding with Ssebalamu against their candidate, they say they are suspicious of the process.

They also claim that Ssebalamu has been going around the area telling people he was already handed the NUP flag for the race.

“We were around and he (Ssebalamu) said he already got the card. We as NUP opposition won't accept such a thing,” one of the members who attended the meeting claimed.

Ssebalamu on his part blamed his rival Sserunjogi for frustrating the process, claiming the meeting has botched for the second time.

“This is the second time. He first time we were called to this meeting, we got specific answers and some people were not happy,” Ssebalamu claimed.

Sserunjogi said he would rather they hold primaries to determine the winner, that is when the process will be transparent.

“Let us go to the polls,” he said.
