Police in Madi Okollo have arrested 13 suspects for murdering six people in a refugee camp.
According to the West Nile region police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, it alleged that on the in the evening hours of Friday, one Yasin Ajute Rahman who was looking after cattle near the Rhino camp refugee settlement in Rigbwo subcounty, Madi Okollo district was assaulted by refugee youths before running to report to his uncle.
“Ajute ran to his uncle Olega who is the LC II chairperson of Kwili Parish, Odraku village, Rigbwo sub county.He rushed Ajute to Olujbo Health center III for treatment but in the process, one of the ladies from Olega’s family ran to the trading centre to inform boda boda riders that Ajute has been killed by refugees prompting an angry mob to attacked the refugee settlement camp,”Angucia said.
The regional police spokesperson said that in the process, six refugees were killed whereas four others sustained injuries.:
Angucia named the deceased as Deng Karr ,15, Daniel Ayoor,30, James Bol, 37, Nyingpiu Nyandiar,25, Agol Nyilueth,35 and Riek Yam, all Dinkas by tribe .
“The case was reported to Police by Muhammad Jackson, 61 the LC1 chairman and the scene was combed by a team of detective. We made a combined deployment of both police and UPDF leading to the arrest of 13 suspects,”Angucia said.
She added that the hunt for other suspects who are still on the run is ongoing.
