MP Lutamaguzi:"I was about to be killed in the prison"

Nakaseke South Member of Parliament, Paul Lugtamaguzi, has said Kitalya Maximum Security Prison where he was detained for more than a week, is a Guantanamo Bay of sorts.

Lutamaguzi and 21 supporters were recently remanded to the prison after being arrested for allegedly violating Covid-19 guidelines.

Appearing on NBS Eagle, a political talk show on Sunday, Lutamaguzi narrated his ordeal.

"I was abducted and my car was shot at and that was between Luwero and Ssemuto. The DPC of Nakaseke Sulait Kitaka and his aide beat me seriously. Even my money was stolen,"Lutamaguzi recounted.

He asked the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to visit Kitalya Maximum Security Prison where he claims that people are dying after being tortured by police.

While the police claim the legislator was arrested after a tip-off that he had planned to convene a meeting near Semuto roundabout in Semuto Town Council, he denied any plan of holding a gathering.

"I was not planning to hold any gathering. I was due to deliver road culverts in fulfilment of an earlier pledge to the people of Semuto town,"he said.

"But those who received the order to arrest me meant to kill me that day. I was taken to the prison where I spent over 1 week in a terrible environment,"he added.

Our efforts to get the comment from the prison authorities were futile.
