Bududa: NRM registrars put on the spot over inflation of voters in two sub counties

By Andrew Nakhaboya

NRM registrars of Bukalasi and Bundesi sub counties in Bududa district have been summoned by the district security committee and tasked to explain the inflation of voters in those sub counties.

This follows complaints by several aspiring candidates who had continuously decried exaggeration of voters in those sub counties.

During registration of NRM members in 2015, Bukalasi registered 5,000 voters of NRM before it gave birth to another sub county of Bundesi.

Both Sub Counties of Bukalasi and Bundesi now have 7,000 voters each making 14,000 something that concerned locals oppose.

Luke Kitale, the NRM registrar Bukalasi, said inflation came as a result of addition of more persons of 15 -17 years of age as was directed by the NRM office.

He added that people in the two sub counties have kept on multiplying since 2015 with others reaching voting age something that could have led to increment of voters in those sub counties.

Bukalasi has got 63 villages with over 7000 voters of NRM and 88 villages in Bundesi with over 7000 voters.

John Watenyeli Nabende, the Resident District Commissioner of Bududa said they are doing this so as to have a smooth election and also to avoid complaints of voter bribery as it is anticipated.

He warned those who might have participated in the illegal act to rectify it before the polling dates.

Jafar Magyezi the district police commander Bududa promised to follow the issue until the culprits responsible face the law.
