Four suspected robbers killed by a mob in Lira

Police in Lira have started investigations into an incident in which four people suspected to be robbers were beaten to death by an angry mob on Thursday night.

According to the North Kyoga area police spokesperson, David Ongom, the incident happened at around 3am when five suspected robbers tried to break into a salon at Kichope village, Ojwima division in Lira Municipality.

"It was an act of mob justice when locals surrounded and beat four of the suspected robbers to death whereas one is nursing critical injuries, " Ongom told Nile Post.

He added that injured has been rushed to Lira regional referral hospital in critical condition. Asked on arrests made, the North Kyoga spokesperson said by the time police and its canine section arrived at the scene, it had been tampered with and could not have clear clues .

Ongom however warned the public against taking the law in their hands.
