Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine has hailed deceased Uganda Human Rights Commission chairperson, Med Kaggwa as a human rights activist.

In August 2018, there was chaos during the last day of the Arua municipality by-elections campaigns when President Museveni’s convoy was allegedly stoned and the screen of one of the cars smashed.

Over 30 people including four MPs were arrested by security agencies and badly beaten over the incident and among them was Bobi Wine who was later detained at Makindye military barracks from where his family and lawyers later accessed him.

Speaking about the death of the Uganda Human Rights Commission chairperson, the legislator cum singer said Kaggwa worked tooth and nail to ensure his family members accessed him during the ordeal.

“During the Arua ordeal, Med did his best to ensure that my family and some of my lawyers accessed me at Makindye Military prison,”Bobi Wine said on his social media accounts.

“Despite working under a military dictatorship, Med always tried to promote rights under very difficult circumstances. “

The singer cum politician said it is the duty of every Ugandan to emulate the late Kaggwa in making the world a better place.

Medi Kaggwa was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning at Case Hospital where he was rushed after being found unconscious in his vehicle.

According to Dr.Patrick Kaliika, the Medical Director at Case Hospital, the UHRC chairperson was brought to the hospital at 7:55 am by a medical doctor from Mulago who found him collapsed in his car near Mulago roundabout.

“The car allegedly stopped suddenly and knocked the car in front of it. The car was found locked and hence broken into by bystanders,” Kaliika said.
