City Oilers eliminated from Africa Champions Cup

City Oilers bowed out of the Africa Champions Cup after a 96-71 defeat at the hands of Tunisian side Union Sportive Monastirienne in the quarter finals yesterday night.

The Oilers trailed their opponents through out the the first half of the game scoring a paltry 19 points to Union Sportives 48 (Q1 10-23 and Q2 9-25).

However, in the second half the Oilers looked some how energized and had a hot hand in Jordin Mayes' who sunk a team-high 20 points and three assists though it wasn't enough to silence the opponents as they again took the third quarter by 30-26 ending the quarter on a 78-45 in favour of Monastirienne.

And in the final frame Adrius Pegues and the Oilers continued to stage up a spirited fight as he tallied a double-double 18 points, pulled down 11 boards, three steals, two assists and two blocks as he was the key player of the Oilers team on the night.

The Oilers bench contributed too little to the team as they only added six points and were out rebounded 36 to Sportive's 47.

Robert Odoch and Jimmy Enabu added 18 and seven rebounds for the Uganda side Oilers. The quarter finals feat has been the Oilers brightest reach in the tournament some thing that shows feature hope for the team.

Sportive's Evariste Shonganya scored a game-high 27 points en route to Monastirienne cruise to the semifinals.
