Qatar to host the CAF Super Cup again

Caf continues the break from tradition as the 2019 Super Cup heads to Qatar again. Before last year’s final that featured the winners of the African Champions League – Tunisian side Esperance – and African Confederation Cup champions – Moroccan outfit Raja Casablanca, the Fixture was being hosted by Champions League holders.

However, this does not rule out the fact that this final has been played elsewhere in Africa in its history.

Caf today has announced that this year’s Super Cup match between Champions League winners Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis and Confederations Cup champions - Zamalek will also be played in Qatar.

Zamalek were crowned CAF Confederation Cup champions following a penalty victory over Morocco’s RS Berkane back in May of this year, while Esperance were crowned as the CAF Champions League winners for a second consecutive time after a controversial final against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

CAF club competitions committee member Sheho Deco declared that there is a three-year agreement between the continental association and Qatar to host the Super Cup final.

Wydad Casablanca are the last champions of the African Super Cup following their 1-0 triumph over DR Congo’s TP Mazembe.
