Rev Melchizedeki Otim: Lango's first Bishop is dead

The first Bishop of Lango Diocese in the Church of Uganda, Reverend Melchizedeki Otim has passed on at the age of 85, the Nile Post has learnt.

According to Anne Alum Ogwal, the daughter, Otim passed on at around 3am on Wednesday morning at the Uganda Heart Institute where he has been battling illnesses for a long time.

Otim served as the pioneer Bishop for Lango diocese after being ordained by the then Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Janan Luwum and went on to serve in the position for 25 years until 25 when he retired.

He was replaced in 2001 by Bishop John Charles Odur and the deceased’s last public appearance was during the consecration of Dr.Alfred Olwa as the third Bishop for Lango diocese in 2017.

Born in 1934, Reverend Otim is survived by eight children and a wife, Joyce Otim.
